AI and the Skilled Workforce

With the advent of AI, most skilled workforce roles will be impacted eventually. For example, businesses are increasingly turning to AI to help optimize production and customer support processes. And in manufacturing, robotics and 3D printing can do some work that previously required assembly people. However, any AI tool is only as good as the data and algorithms behind it, which are created by humans or collected from other applications. These AI tools still require human oversight and human-managed protocols to ensure their outputs are equitable and safe.

At TALCO Workforce we see exciting opportunities for AI in accelerating training and matching skill sets. AI can optimize and accelerate training programs for new hires. Onboarding of new professionals can be accelerated for better training and re-skilling. Additionally, AI tools can help identify employees with desirable skills in nontraditional places. A new generation of AI-powered skills-mapping programs can dig deep into work history, educational background and social profiles to identify transferable skills and skill gaps across roles and organizations. Skills mapping can also help organizations rethink roles by identifying skills that can be combined to create new positions and eliminate redundancies.

In conclusion, most of the latest AI tools are much less likely to steal someone’s job than to help fill roles that desperately need to be filled.
